Georgia DUI Information for Out of State Drivers

Georgia DUI Information for Out of State Drivers

If you have been charged with Georgia DUI, and your drivers license was issued in another state, you will be forced to deal with additional penalties. Under the Driver’s License Compact, member States must communicate the fact of a conviction for DUI to the “Home State”. The “Home State” then takes action against the license under its own laws. Forty-five States are currently members of the Interstate Compact.  This may force you to fight two battles, one in Georgia and one in your home state.  Out of State DUI Convictions are also counted in regards to multiple offenses. It is also important to know that Georgia does not have the ability to issue any type of restricted, limited, driving permits for drivers in other states.

One of the main problems out of state residents face when charged with a Georgia DUI is making court appearances.  Hiring a qualified GA DUI lawyer like Attorney Chanco can relieve some of that burden as we can handle many of the hearings without your presence.  If you are an out of state driver who has been charged with a DUI in the Atlanta Georgia area, please call 404-250-3206 to speak with Atlanta DUI Attorney Douglas B.
